Western Avenue Lofts welcomed its first working artist tenants in 2012. Many of the artists of Western Avenue Studios were our first residents and were involved in the decisions that led to how the spaces were built out. They wanted the freedom to create their own space, not limited by pre-established walls or ideas; simple and practical finishes, to keep the rents as affordable as possible and to leave all the creativity and personality of how their space looks to themselves. Most importantly they wanted to live comfortably and be productive in a community of like-minded, inspiring peers.
We do maintain a waiting list – mostly this is for our smaller lofts under $1300 a month in rent. If you are a working artist, we would be happy to talk to you about living at the Lofts! Call 978-710-8605.
Here’s what comes with a loft rental.
- Landlord pays for heat and A/C; Tenant pays for electric and water.
- Two free parking spaces.
- Two common area wash sinks per floor.
- One common laundry on the first floor.
- On site residential manager.
What else do you need to know? The Lofts is a pet friendly building. Artists are welcome to join the garden group and share in the raised beds provided off the west entry. Artists are encouraged to hang their art on the hallways in the building. The Lofts residents have meshed into a supportive community that hosts pot luck picnics by the gardens and an active Google group to share ideas, dog walk in a pinch, donate items, and help when needed.
Artists may join the Western Avenue Studios Artists Association which allows them to participate in the monthly Open Studios events hosted at Western Avenue. Artists may also join the co-op Gallery in the Studios building – The Loading Dock Gallery.
