About This Artist

Artist Name: Scot Langdon

Scot Langdon – Photographer Biography

Scot Langdon is a photojournalist and commercial photographer.  Scot began his career in the news industry, working for community and regional metro daily newspapers covering politics, news, and sports stories.  In 1985, after graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, Scot spent five weeks in Israel in the Upper Galilee on Kibbutz Malkiyya (a work community) photographing a picture story of kibbutz members and volunteers as they worked day to day.  He then worked for years as a news photographer for Mariner Publications, a weekly paper division of ABC News; The Middlesex News/Metro West Daily in Framingham, MA; The Auburn Citizen in upstate New York, and most recently The Lowell Sun in Massachusetts.

Currently, Scot has his own company, Long Hill Photography, photographing individuals, special family events, company projects, real estate interiors, non-profit organizations, and publications that choose to communicate lifestyle and workstyle through his photographs.  His passion is capturing the personal and the work lives of his subjects through environmental portraits in their natural surroundings.

Artist Statement/Vision

My work as a photojournalist is about capturing the micro-moments that make up people’s lives; fleeting opportunities captured by watching facial expressions, body language, juxtapositions, and anticipating human behavior in response to the world around us.  I first build trust with a portrait subject, allowing them to be comfortable with who they are in front of my lens, wait patiently as they offer up their personality to me, and make the photograph.  As a design interiors photographer, I am driven by finding that perfect view, leading lines, the color and texture of light, the shadows, and the height of the lens against the room’s landscape.  For me, making a good photograph, above all, requires patience, a vision for a starting point, and the experience to capture an image that tells the story.
