SUMMARY:Color Play Show at Loading Dock Gallery
DESCRIPTION:As we enter a new year\, artists Tarja Cockell and Brooke Lambert celebrate with Color Play\, a new show at the Loading Dock Gallery. This show combines Cockell’s quilts and textile collages and Lambert’s painted collagraphs\, both of which are saturated with rich color.\nTarja Cockell uses dyeing\, painting\, and other mixed media to create intricate\, textured surfaces in her textiles. She often adds stitching to enhance organic shapes and textures for her pieces.\n“I want to cherish the playfulness of color\,” Cockell says. “In this work\, I explore\nabstract colorations and dreamscapes with a hint of reality and a lot of space for imagination.”\nBrooke Lambert makes original collagraphs inspired by the ocean and the light within it — the light coming out of the cracks and crevices on the ocean floor\, within the waves and life beneath its surface. “Even on the darkest days\, the ocean has light\,”\nshe says\, “and this light\, for me\, represents hope.”\nBoth artists agree that\, during this difficult time in the world\, it is important to hold on to those moments that give us hope\, appreciate the beauty in nature\, and share art. It is their hope that the colors and exploration of form in their work resonates emotionally with those who view them.

SUMMARY:Sketchbook to Large Scale
DESCRIPTION:This six class course will run throughout the second half of spring semester.  \n  \n“Magnify Your Work: Sketchbook to Large Scale\,” will take students through the process of transforming personal ideas into large format pieces. Students will complete a series of three pieces that are all derived from the practice of sketchbooking. Throughout this coursework\, new styles and themes will be introduced. Students will explore through color\, line\, and especially scale how to bring sketchbook concepts to life. Working big encourages the movement of body\, intertwining personal energy with the process of making with meaning. It’s all about the journey in this class\, be prepared to get zen. \n  \n  \nThis program is open to ALL STUDENTS  who love to create and those who seek more guidance to grow artistically\, regardless of portfolio requirements.  \n(17-Adults) \n  \nSaturday Afternoons: 1:30-4pm: \nInstructor: Courtney Wilson \nFebruary 27 \nMarch 6\, 13\, 27 \nApril 3\, 10 \n  \nSketchbook required\, a basic art kit will be availble for purchase at the studio for a cost $25. Materials can be purchased outside of studio as well; kit includes a sketchbook\, paint saver container\, basic drawing supplies and paintbrushes.  \n  \nDue to new health and safety concerns\, we ask that students come to class with a mask. We will provide hand sanitizer and wipe down working areas with disinfectant before and after class. Shields and limited class sizes will also be implemented during this time. We ask that if your child or a household family member does not feel well to be open and communicate with us about your child missing class as a precautionary measure. Restaurant rules apply for snacks and drinks… students will be allowed to eat and drink at their work space but must wear masks when traveling through the studio.
