SUMMARY:Celebrating Diversity - Lowell Has It!
DESCRIPTION:The many cultural traditions that are part of the rich diversity of the Greater Lowell Area will be available for visitors to enjoy either as workshop presenters\, musicians\, dancers or food vendors.  Many of the workshops are “Make and Take” and on a Drop-In basis.  Other workshops\, due to limited space require pre-registration.  All workshops are FREE. \nThe centerpiece of this event is the month-long art exhibit “Who We Are: A Celebration of Diversity” being held in the expansive Loading Dock Gallery located at the Western Avenue Community.  The Back Door Gallery is featuring an exhibit by Erick Maldonado\, “COALO EN LAWRENCE.”  In addition to the activities of the afternoon\, we are hosting exhibits in three of the min-galleries at Western Avenue. \nThe 4th Floor Gallery has “What is The Acre” an exhibit from the archives of the Center for Lowell History (UML Libraries)\, the Pollard Memorial Library\, and the Lowell Historical Society.  The exhibit in the 3rd Floor Gallery is “Finding Home” a photo essay by photographer Scot Langdon.  Scot follows the process of the resettlement of an Afghan Family to Lowell.  “City of Immigrants” is the exhibit in the 1st Floor Gallery; a collaboration of three photographers\, Jim Higgins\, Wendy James and Tory Wesnofske. \nThere is on-site free parking and free overflow parking at the UML staff parking lot on Wilder Street.  The COOL shuttle bus will run between the Wilder Street lot and the Shuttle Stop at Western Ave Studios from 10:45am–6:00pm.

SUMMARY:Vibrational Portfolio
DESCRIPTION:Sylv Litz’s show\, Vibrational Portfolio\, represent two distinct bodies of work. In the first group\nof pieces\, created at MICA\, Sylv created a series of wrapped pieces made from upcycled\nmaterials. They were created in difficult personal circumstances but Sylv transformed pain\nand grief into something both radiant and beautiful. These works have the intense beauty of\nbright jewels\, binding up deeply personal themes with a simple poetic grace.\nThe textured acrylic pieces started simply as a way to rediscover joy. By not taking art too\nseriously\, and by allowing the trained eye to emerge only when it felt like doing so\, Sylv freed\ntheir process from the formality of art school. Sylv has created a body of linked thematic\npieces combining multiple techniques. The pieces have a synthetic feel\, but their healing aura\ncame from a purer place of cleansings\, breathwork and moon water.\nThe weaving of ideas and imagery becomes\, for Sylv\, a dance in the act of making. At the\nend of the dance there is release.\nCurator: Antoinette Indge\nParticipating Artist: Sylv Litz\nCovid-19 Guidelines:\n– Face coverings/masks are not required but recommended since some studios and businesses may require them for admission into their space.\n– Guests who are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms or have been instructed to quarantine by a medical professional should not attend.\n– We will have hand sanitation stations throughout the building. There is no charge for this event. This event is dog-friendly. We just ask that you keep your pup on a leash.\n\nVisit the Storage Closet Gallery. Located in the lofts building\, second floor by loft 204.\nOpen during open studios or by appointment.
