DESCRIPTION:ATTENTION ALL STAFF: \nStop your Tik Tok/Instagram doom scrolling and report for this month’s MANDATORY COMPANY MEETING\, in which we will discuss:\ngrotesque narrative artworks inspired by 3 years of mostly working from home- virtual meetings\, toxic politics\, impending doom\, protests\, illness (both viral and chronic genetic issues)\, collapsing ethics and morality\, and grasping for love and hope amidst chaos. \nCompany Meeting combines paintings and drawings created during the great upheaval of the 2020s. Grotesque\, cartoonish figures twist\, explode\, and bend backwards into psychedelic eruptions of color\, pattern\, and detail. Sandagata’s works critique and question\, melding elements of pop culture\, 80s comics\, countercultural movements\, punk\, heavy metal\, chronic illness\, politics and contemporary art into a visual riot. \nRobb Sandagata was born in New Haven\, CT and has lived in New York\, Arizona\, and Massachusetts. Significant influences\, in roughly chronological order\, include: cartoons\, comic books\, Dungeons & Dragons\, “Alternative” music\, punk rock\, theater\, competitive debate\, mid-90s Hardcore\, and band t-shirts. SUMMARY:IN THE WORK\, Denise Driscoll at Storage Closet Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Open to the public during Western Ave Studios & Lofts Open Studios and by appointment:\nSat May 6 & Sun May 7\, 12–5 pm\nSat June 3\, 12–5 pm\nSat July 1\, 12–5 pm\nLowell\, MA–Beginning May 6\, the Storage Closet Gallery will exhibit IN THE WORK by Denise Driscoll presenting paintings that are in-progress and subject to change from day to day. From May through July\, large canvases will rotate in and out of the small Storage Closet Gallery as Driscoll works on them in her studio then brings them back to display their progress. Across time\, each painting may move through states of loveliness\, balance\, disarray\, and change as paint is layered and marks accumulate. For those who wonder “How long did this take?” a work log with dates and hours of working time will be attached to each canvas. Here\, IN THE WORK\, Driscoll invites the viewer to witness her creative process—the dance between uncertainty and control\, the familiar and the unknown—as paintings emerge from imagined potential to final realization.\n\nDenise Driscoll’s paintings envision interconnectedness with pattern and exuberant color. Driscoll is a SOLO2017 winner at Bromfield Gallery and a Curatorial Opportunity Grant recipient at the New Art Center.  Her work is in many private and public collections including Alexandria Real Estate\, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center\, Whitney Veigas\, Bancroft Lofts\, Stanford University\, Emory University Hospital\, UMass Memorial Medical Center\, Dover-Sherborn Middle School\, and Elsewhere Collaborative. Driscoll holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Lesley Art + Design (2007) where she has also taught. Driscoll is currently a cancer patient dealing with the challenging work of treatment. She has found that staying grounded through painting and focusing on her own web of connection with family\, friends\, and the community at Western Avenue is very good medicine. Driscoll is represented by Fountain Street Gallery\, the Loading Dock Gallery\, and Art in Giving. She lives and works in the Western Avenue Lofts in Lowell\, MA.\n\nThe Storage Closet Gallery is a small space for ART/WORK by artists at Western Avenue Lofts located at\n160 Western Ave\, Lowell\, MA and is open during Open Studios\, or by appointment.

DESCRIPTION:Nicholas Anthony Mancini: Works on Paper\nLocation: Western Avenue Lofts\, 160 Western Avenue\, 2nd Floor Lowell\, MA 01851\nDates: Open during Saturday Open Studios\, noon to 5 pm\, on November 4th\, December 2nd\, December 9th\, January 6th\, and by appointment.Storage Closet Gallery presents Works on Paper\, recent etchings and silverpoint drawings by Nicholas Anthony Mancini\, opening Saturday\, November 4th\, 2023\, on view through January 2024. Mancini’s images are composites sourced from 16th century tapestries and lived experiences in woods and gardens. Repeating horizontal lines\, a device typically employed in printmaking to create depth\, depict close-up views of anonymous\, mysterious feet on sylvan ground. The work invites reflections of our relationship with nature\, and new and old technologies. Drawn by hand with an etching needle\, silver wire and a straight edge\, the horizontal striated marks appear similar to digital scans while imparting the physical impact of a tapestry weft. \nNicholas Anthony Mancini (Born Swampscott\, MA) received his BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and his MFA from Boston University. Nicholas’ work encompasses painting\, drawing and printmaking. He is currently the Visiting Assistant Professor in Painting at Massachusetts College of Art. \n\n\n\nThe Storage Closet Gallery is a small space for ART/WORK by artists at Western Avenue Lofts located at\n160 Western Ave\, Lowell\, MA and is open during Open Studios\, or by appointment.

DESCRIPTION:The Storage Closet Gallery is truly one of a kind.  You can visit this gallery during our Open Studios every first Saturday of the month 12 PM- 5 PM on September 7th\, October 5th & 6th\, and November 2nd OR visit by appointment. Located on the 2nd Floor\, at Western Avenue LOFTS. This gallery can be visited September 7th\, 2024 through November 17th\, 2024. \nCharles Gallagher exhibits an assemblage sculptures and collages using scavenged materials and found objects collected on daily walks\, a practice he traces back to beach-combing on Long Island and coastal Maine. \nEach piece comes together slowly as disparate materials are placed within a particular composition over time. The selecting\, balancing and stacking of elements within each piece echoes the process of laying down stones to form a dry stone wall. Gallagher is sensitive to the latent potential of his gathered materials just as he can see the inherent qualities of a piece of stone. \nGallagher’s pieces can appear whimsical or formally minimalist\, the free and inventive use of materials providing a rich visual language of textured histories and hidden narratives. Gallagher’s assemblages have the spirit of a totem\, the imbued meaning unclear but powerfully present.
