SUMMARY:Vibrational Portfolio
DESCRIPTION:Sylv Litz’s show\, Vibrational Portfolio\, represent two distinct bodies of work. In the first group\nof pieces\, created at MICA\, Sylv created a series of wrapped pieces made from upcycled\nmaterials. They were created in difficult personal circumstances but Sylv transformed pain\nand grief into something both radiant and beautiful. These works have the intense beauty of\nbright jewels\, binding up deeply personal themes with a simple poetic grace.\nThe textured acrylic pieces started simply as a way to rediscover joy. By not taking art too\nseriously\, and by allowing the trained eye to emerge only when it felt like doing so\, Sylv freed\ntheir process from the formality of art school. Sylv has created a body of linked thematic\npieces combining multiple techniques. The pieces have a synthetic feel\, but their healing aura\ncame from a purer place of cleansings\, breathwork and moon water.\nThe weaving of ideas and imagery becomes\, for Sylv\, a dance in the act of making. DESCRIPTION:Lowell\, MA- The exhibit A Conversation in a Clearing will bring the Tree Speech podcast to life\,\nallowing audiences to engage with a tree\, and reflect on their tangled relationship with nature\nand the environment – as well as their place within a continual lineage of the earth and its\nseasons.\nCombining audio narrative storytelling with a physical representation of a peaceful\, winter\nclearing in the woods\, the immersive installation allows one or two visitors at a time to actively\nrelax\, and settle into a peaceful place where their minds and hearts may feel at ease. This\nenchanted space allows the imagination to be free.\nCo-producer of the podcast and exhibition\, Jonathan Zautner\, states: “Coming into such a busy\ntime of year filled with obligations and duties and hustle\, we wanted to provide a haven where a\nperson could center themselves with trees\, the most grounded things in our world at this time.\nTrees allow us to be truthful with ourselves and can offer insight and by giving people an\nopportunity to sit with one\, even for a short time\, I know that there will be much understanding\nrevealed.”\nThe exhibit will be running at the Storage Closet Gallery at 160 Western Ave\, Floor 2\, in Lowell\nfrom November 5 through December 10\, coinciding with Open Studios from 12-5 pm at Western\nAvenue Lofts and Studios. DESCRIPTION:    Caomhnórí\n  \nThree artists at Western Avenue Lofts are presenting collaboratively about their work and the common threads that link them. Residents of the Western Avenue Lofts\, Paul Carlson\, a renowned concert pianist\, Seiki Imagica\, a Japanese Flamenco guitarist and global digital music producer\, and Meghan Walsh\, an internationally-recognized contemporary stone mosaic artist and architect will present their work and discuss artistic influences in a late afternoon gathering at Loft 112 at Western Avenue Lofts on Saturday\, April 1st\, 2023\, from 4:45-6:15pm.  \nThe performance ends that day of Open Studios at the Western Avenue Studios and Lofts that same day from 12-5p. Paul Carlson will be playing rarely played work of Alan Hovhaness\, an Armenian-American composer born and raised in Somerville/ Andover who passed away in 2000. Flamenco guitarist Seiki Imagica will be focusing on Japanese traditional music\, rich in minor chords. Meghan Walsh\, a recent Lowell resident\, originally from Salem\, MA who has lived overseas and in Washington\, DC for most of her adult life\, will present her work in the context of the ancient stone mosaic tradition and the current global evolution in contemporary art.  \nA small collection of Walsh’s work will be on display at Loft 112 for the first time in Lowell in a collection called Caomhnórí – a word in the Irish language – Gaeilge – meaning ‘guardians’ or ‘custodians’ in English. The word signifies the way that traditional and historical arts can both be preserved but still transform. Walsh uses Irish language words to name many of her works of art and exhibitions to intentionally to call attention to all UNESCO-endangered languages and the critical importance to our collective humanity of what is often invisible and undervalued.   \n
