A Conversation in a Clearing

November 5, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free
Lowell, MA- The exhibit A Conversation in a Clearing will bring the Tree Speech podcast to life,
allowing audiences to engage with a tree, and reflect on their tangled relationship with nature
and the environment – as well as their place within a continual lineage of the earth and its
seasons.
Combining audio narrative storytelling with a physical representation of a peaceful, winter
clearing in the woods, the immersive installation allows one or two visitors at a time to actively
relax, and settle into a peaceful place where their minds and hearts may feel at ease. This
enchanted space allows the imagination to be free.
Co-producer of the podcast and exhibition, Jonathan Zautner, states: “Coming into such a busy
time of year filled with obligations and duties and hustle, we wanted to provide a haven where a
person could center themselves with trees, the most grounded things in our world at this time.
Trees allow us to be truthful with ourselves and can offer insight and by giving people an
opportunity to sit with one, even for a short time, I know that there will be much understanding
revealed.”
The exhibit will be running at the Storage Closet Gallery at 160 Western Ave, Floor 2, in Lowell
from November 5 through December 10, coinciding with Open Studios from 12-5 pm at Western
Avenue Lofts and Studios. For more information visit

Co-producer and host of the podcast Dori Robinson adds: “This is the perfect time of year for
reflection and hope as we also examine our collective responsibilities as ancestors to the
generations of the future while caring for our communities right now. There is no better
metaphor for this important work than to sit with and commune with a tree!”.
Tree Speech Podcast
Presented by Alight Theater Guild, the Tree Speech Podcast is a blend of storytelling,
interviews, and wanderlust at the intersection of the personal, historical, and cultural ways that
trees impact our lives. Each episode seeks to find new understandings of the tangled
relationships we have with the natural world we inhabit through an examination of folklore,
history, holidays, and current events while exploring trees in our conversations around race,
religion, and resources with people who all share deep connections to them.
