Interview : Ingrid Hess on using art to empower children

A UMASS Lowell professor and a resident artist at Western Avenue Lofts, INGRID HESS is a published author/illustrator and graphic designer whose work is influenced both by her Amish/Mennonite heritage and her four years of childhood in Costa Rica.

Her research focuses on economic justice as a way to bring peace to the world and empower kids to understand that they can make a difference. Notable among her projects is the book Mister Magnificent’s Magical Merrimack Adventure that engages children about the cultural history of Lowell, MA.

Professor Hess will share insight into her working process while discussing her most recent work.
