Hello Spring, is that you?
Spring is on the horizon.
As we head into Spring, the days are getting longer, and we can almost feel the warm weather around the corner. March is not only when Spring starts, but it’s also the birth month of famous journalist and Lowell’s own Jack Kerouac. We plan to bring you a virtual art experience like no other, all from the safety and comfort of your own home. We’ve got literary readings, studio tours, demos, artwork, and more planned for this Virtual Open Studios event! So join us for our third Virtual Open Studios of 2021.
With warmer weather on the horizon, we will be returning to hosting Outdoor Art Markets. In compliance with local and state regulations. Stay tuned for more details as we finalize things. We hope to see your smiling faces in person soon.
A new tradition and growing partnerships.
It isn’t easy to believe we are approaching a year since we held an in-person Open Studios event. If we knew then, we would have cherished every moment even more. Since our first-ever Jack Kerouac birthday celebration, March also marks a year since our first partnership with Lowell Celebrates Kerouac. That event saw a new creative way to celebrate our monthly Open Studios at the same time, paying homage to different art aspects and deepening our community partners’ relationships. These relationships are vital to our future and help art thrive at Western Avenue and with Lowell‘s creative community. We are happy to announce Lowell Celebrates Kerouac again this year as we celebrate Jack’s birthday virtually with videos of readings and featuring art focused on Jack Kerouac and the wonderful city of Lowell.
Masked Waitstaff: In Praise Of Service, Happy anniversary Navigation Brewing, and tasty foods that are both savory and sweet!
This may be a virtual event, but there are still parts of the Open Studios experience you can enjoy in person this month! The Loading Dock Gallery will be open for in-person browsing (12-5:30 pm), featuring their new art show Masked Waitstaff: In Praise Of Service. You can meet the guest artist Donna Berger from 3-5 pm at the gallery. Navigation Brewing Company will be open 4-9 pm with their handcrafted beers, but this month is extra special. This month the Navigation crew is also celebrating sevens years since they first opened up at their old location. So pop in, wish them happy anniversary and pick up a special Anniversary Ale. We have local favorite Empanada Dada with their mouth-watering empanadas and The Whoo(pie) Wagon with their signature sweet desserts on the food front.
Studio visits by appointments.
While we currently cannot host in-person Open Studios events, most of our artists are currently booking appointments for private studio tours. These private studio tours are a safer and more intimate experience. You can book an appointment by reaching out directly to the artists of your choice. You can find a directory in our Community section.
We suggest routinely checking out the community section as we get new artists throughout the year and our artists post new work!
